Question 1

Why is an 8-inch gap clamp commonly used for distal biceps repair?

Accepted Answer

The 8-inch size gives surgeons the ideal reach and leverage needed to access the radial tuberosity without overextending the incision. It comfortably spans the working depth of the forearm, making the repair more controlled and precise. This length has become a go-to choice because it balances maneuverability with stability throughout the procedure.

Question 2

How does this clamp support cortical button fixation during surgery?

Accepted Answer

During cortical button fixation, the clamp holds the tendon graft or button in proper alignment while the surgeon secures it to the bone tunnel. It keeps everything stable so the button passes cleanly through the radius without shifting or misaligning. This steady grip reduces the risk of fixation failure and helps achieve a strong, reliable attachment at the repair site.

Question 3

Is the 8" size appropriate for minimally invasive distal biceps procedures?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the 8-inch gap clamp works very well for minimally invasive approaches because its slim profile fits through small incisions without requiring extra exposure. Surgeons can position and tension the repair accurately even in a tight surgical field. It supports single-incision techniques particularly well, reducing overall trauma to surrounding structures.

Question 4

What material is this surgical clamp typically made from?

Accepted Answer

Most gap clamps used in orthopedic procedures are crafted from high-grade stainless steel or titanium alloy for durability and corrosion resistance. These materials can withstand repeated sterilization cycles in an autoclave without degrading. The smooth, polished finish also minimizes tissue drag and makes the instrument easier to handle during delicate fixation steps.

Question 5

How can soft tissue damage be avoided while using this instrument?

Accepted Answer

Always use gentle, controlled pressure instead of gripping too hard or forcing the clamp into position. Keep the jaws away from nerves and blood vessels during placement, and ensure a well-maintained, smooth-moving clamp is used to minimize unnecessary pressure on surrounding soft tissue structures.
