Beckman Weitlaner Retractors are used to provide access and exposure, especially in small surgical areas, during a wide range of orthopedic and neurosurgery procedures. The retractors feature sharp prongs or teeth that can be adjusted for optimal tissue retraction and clear site visualization. They are self-retaining, so the surgeon can lock the instrument in place to free up their hands for other tasks. The instruments are available in various styles and sizes, including 5 1/2-inch 3x4; 6 1/2-inch 3x4; and 8 1/2-inch 3x4 22x17 mm.

Sharp-tipped models provide superior grip and prevent slippage during procedures, allowing surgeons to secure tissues firmly without the instrument shifting during the operation. The pointed tips hook into tough fibrous tissues easily, giving surgeons better control and precise manipulation of tissues in confined surgical spaces.

Beckman Weitlaner retractors come in three main everyday sizes that surgeons pick based on what they're working on. The 5 1/2-inch works great for shallow procedures like skin or surface work, the 6 1/2-inch handles medium-depth surgeries, and the 8 1/2-inch reaches deeper into the body for major organ exposure. Most surgical teams keep all three on hand because each one lets surgeons see exactly what they need without forcing the tissue open too wide, which keeps patients safer during the operation.

Sharp hooked prongs securely grip tissues and allow precise manipulation with minimal tissue trauma GerMedUSA, while preventing inadvertent slippage that could compromise surgical exposure. Blunt tips work better for delicate structures, but sharp versions excel at holding firm grip during extended procedures requiring stable positioning.

The ratchet or speedlock mechanism holds the retractor firmly in place once positioned, freeing the surgeon's hands for other tasks throughout the procedure. The self-retaining locking system maintains consistent tension without manual effort, making it ideal for extended operations where constant repositioning isn't necessary.

Sharp Beckman Weitlaner retractors are typically manufactured from high-grade stainless steel, chosen for its durability, corrosion resistance, and ability to maintain sharp edges after repeated sterilization and use. This premium material withstands the rigorous demands of surgical environments while providing excellent visibility under surgical lights and easy cleaning. Stainless steel construction ensures these instruments remain reliable workhorses in any surgical setting.
